Senior Project Manager - DJR Cos., DJR Eng.

Mike retired at the rank of Lieutenant Commander from a 25-year career in the United States Navy where he earned a reputation as a top performer, respected leader, and technical expert.  In addition to his years of construction and project management as a military engineer, Mike brings unique insight to the company from his experience in government construction contract administration and oversight.

Mike enlisted in the United States Navy upon graduation from high school and quickly worked his way up to the senior enlisted rank of Chief Petty Officer.  After serving nine years as a Sonar Technician in the surface fleet, he leveraged his record of superior performance, leadership, and academic aptitude to earn a highly competitive selection to an officer commissioning program into the Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps.  Upon completion of the program, Mike graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. He became a Registered Civil Engineer in the state of California in 2016.

As a Civil Engineer Corps officer in the Navy, Mike has worked on teams managing over forty facility construction, repair, and maintenance projects with a total value exceeding $18M with roles ranging from project engineer to agency construction/quality assurance manager.  As the officer in charge of a deployed 40-person military expeditionary construction detachment he was overall responsible for the safe operation of a production rock quarry and directly supervised all quarry blasting and rock crushing operations.  While assigned to the Naval Special Warfare Command, he managed the procurement program and lifecycle maintenance of a fleet of over two thousand vehicles in support of global military special operations.

During his military career, Mike has held numerous leadership positions at multiple levels within the defense agency including upper-level programmatic management of high value commodity and facility sustainment budgets, second in command of a 400-person expeditionary construction unit, and small unit leader of deployed forces.

As an Associate Civil Engineer at DJR, Mike complements the team with his diverse military background and experience in project and construction management within the federal government.  He provides a robust Autodesk Civil 3D CAD capability that enables DJR to generate and update construction design documents in-house and contributes to the company’s stormwater mitigation and design capability as a Qualified Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan Developer (QSD).
